Welcome to Laurelhurst Elementary and the world of volunteer opportunities! Here's an overview of some of the many volunteer opportunities available at Laurelhurst. Communications

PTA Newsletter
Edit weekly newsletter for Laurelhurst families, teachers & staff.

First Week Packets
Prepare information and required forms to send home with students on first day.

Open House Tours
Show Laurelhurst to prospective new families (mostly kindergarten).

Directory
Enter data from parents’ phone book/volunteer forms into the computer.

Community Building

First Day Tea
Help set up or bake goodies for parents for the welcome tea.

Fundraising

All School PTA Events
Three meetings: October, March, May.

Kids’ Karnival
Assist with serving up food, manning a booth for a shift, cashiering, and/or clean up for this fall festival.
Sept. – Oct.

Auction
To be held in February
Assist with planning and implementing fundraising auction. There are many volunteer opportunities for this major fundraising event traditionally held in the Spring. Volunteer needs span from production, kitchen help, procurement, cashiering, decorations, class auction projects to clean up.
November - February

Book Fair
Assist with planning sale of Scholastic books or work a shift setting up or taking down displays, cashiering, or helping kids find books.
January

Ice Cream Social
Over 200 volunteer opportunities available to plan and stage this community carnival.
April – June

Gift Wrap
Coordinate paperwork and distribution of orders for annual wrapping paper fundraising sales.
Sept - Oct

Grants
Identify specific school needs, and help write and administer grants to meet those needs.

Printer Cartridge Recycling
Collect, pack, and ship printer cartridges for recycling rebate.

EScrip Sales
On-going

T-shirt Sales
Design, market, sell, and distribute Laurelhurst T-shirts/sweatshirts or other logo clothing.

Safety

Emergency Preparedness
Maintain and update emergency medical and food supplies.

School Yard Safety Monitors
Enhance school yard safety and provide additional adult guidance.

School Support

Friends of the Library
Coordinate volunteers and/or assist in the library with book re-shelving, check out and other special projects.

Picture Days
Assist photographer and teachers with getting children ready to have individual and class photos taken on picture days.

PTA Membership
Register Laurelhurst families as PTA members & process documents.

Room Parents
Coordinate parent support for teachers and serve as link between teachers, PTA and parents.

Teacher/Staff Appreciation and Hospitality
Plan and organize creative ways of saying “thank you” to our Laurelhurst teaching staff.

Technology
Support planning usage and upkeep of the technology infrastructure.

Student Clubs & Activites

After School Activities
Coordinate after school activities and process registrations

Chess Club
Coordinate students' chess club and/or assist with specific weekly or tournament activities. Laurelhurst has beginning, intermediate and advanced chess.

Math Night
Assist the Math Specialist in organizing a monthly night of math games for Laurelhurst children and their families.

Field Day
Assist the PE teacher in organizing and running games at Laurelhurst Park along with providing refreshments to celebrate the end of the school year

5th Grade Math Olympiad
Prepare students to compete in the Washington State Math Olympiad.

Building and Grounds
Organize educational and hands-on landscaping activities.

Science Fai
Assist classes and help organize this annual science event.

School Saving
Assist children in making weekly deposits to their accounts with Washington Mutual School Savings Program.

Yearbook
Assist Yearbook editors with creating, marketing, tallying orders, and distributing the yearbooks – 5th grade only.

Visual, Performing, and Literary Arts

Drama
Help provide theater experiences for all Laurelhurst students via production of a play and coordinating after-school and in-class drama workshops. Help out with the annual 5th grade play in June.

Classroom Assistance
Assist classroom teachers with a variety of activities. Contact classroom teacher.

Fall Food Drive
Help the Family Support Worker coordinate the Fall Food Drive for Laurelhurst families in need.

Giving Wreath
Help Family Support Worker collect food staples to donate to Laurelhurst families in need in winter.
