This year, the Laurelhurst Chess Club will be run by Chess4Life, an organization dedicated to teaching chess and positively encouraging students at all levels, developing sportsmanship and other life skills. Students of any level are encouraged to participate. This is an after school activity where children can learn to play chess, have fun, make new friends, and even compete at local chess tournaments.
To sign up for chess at Laurelhurst, please see the attached registration information. You can sign up via mail or online. In addition, please fill out the bottom portion and turn it into the school office. The admin fee is a one-time fee to cover partial scholarships, program expenses and other fun stuff and is required, but the other items are optional. Partial scholarships for tuition are available.
This year, no group snack will be provided, but students are strongly encouraged to bring one that they may have before the start of chess class. Snacks will be allowed during the first 10 minutes of chess club if they have not finished beforehand.
On the first day of chess class, all students will meet in the lunchroom. For pick up, please check your child out with the instructor. If your child is going to LASER after chess, make a note on the Chess4Life registration form.
