Art Program

John Hay's commitment to the arts takes many forms. From the stage, to the studio, to the streets of Queen Anne, Hay students explore how the visual arts, music, theatre and dance expand their lives and the lives of others.

Arts education is a vital component to the enriched environment at John Hay. The Visual Arts Program provides the students with a quality art curriculum that is deeply rooted in the experiences of art making, while its interdisciplinary approach offers contextual and holistic learning opportunities.

During this coming year, our art program will explore Brazil: its arts, culture, language, geography, environmental aspects, and more!

What will your child be doing in art class?

In art, we build our art knowledge by learning the elements and principles of art. Art education encompasses the major aspects of art-drawing, painting, three-dimensional art and two-dimensional design. The program provides opportunities to study a variety of artists, art processes and experiences in individual creative exploration.

Students look at art to learn about other cultures, places, artists and works of art. Students talk about art to discuss meanings, ideas, feelings and mood.

Students make art to create expressive visual images.

Through creating, we discover the skills of creative problem solving, artistic perception and expression. Our goal is to foster a joy of learning through the visual arts.
