Instructional Programs
John Hay Elementary is pleased to offer a variety of high-quality programs to enhance and extend the learning of all students, including:
- Full-day, tuition-based kindergarten (tuition assistance available)
- 1st grade literacy block with 14:1 student:teacher ratio
- Sound partners 1:1 reading tutors for 1st graders in need of additional reading instruction
- Full-time reading specialist
- Math tutors for 4th-5th grade students
- TERC Math Investigations curriculum
- Science program based on National Science Foundation and Washington State standards
- Pathways enrichment for high-achieving 3rd-5th grade students
- Inclusion program for students with autism
- Success-oriented physical education program
- Spanish for all students
- Visual arts program, including regular classroom instruction as well as collaborations with UW graduate school and local artists
- Drama
- Choral and instrumental music
- Student leadership through Student Council, Conflict Managers, and Safety Patrol
- Variety of after-school programs
