Success-Oriented Physical Education
A comprehensive physical education program has as its foundation learning experiences which are designed to help each student develop efficient, effective and expressive movement patterns in a variety of movement situations
Physical education is planned and conducted to provide specific outcomes in the areas of:
- Motor skills
- Knowledge and understanding
- Feelings and appreciation
Instruction program is designed to:
- activate all students
- condition the heart, lungs, muscles and other systems of the body to meet usual and emergency demands
- give all students some measure of success
- be sex-equitable
- include safety instructions on all units
- provide instruction in all aspects of an activity
- accommodate students with handicapping conditions
- prepare students for a variety of sport and recreational pursuits through guided sequential instruction; and
- develop the skills of movement, the knowledge of how and why one moves and the ways in which movements may be organized
Activity Areas:
- movement exploration: movement with and without equipment
- low organized games: running, tag and dual games
- rhythmic activities/dances
- apparatus: gymnastics, outdoor climber
- physical fitness/conditioning: calisthenics, jogging, President’s fitness testing
- individual/dual sports and activities: moonlight bowling, wall ball, roller skating, circus arts (tumbling, unicycling, juggling), pedometers, rock wall
- team sports: basketball, volleyball, soccer, softball, floor hockey and football
- multi-disciplinary activities
Extras:
- Before and after school activities: a creative movement outlet for students outside the school day.
