John Hay Partners
Every John Hay parent, guardian, teacher, and staff member is a Partner! We are one team, working together with the principal to provide a top-quality education for EVERY student. John Hay Partners includes the entire John Hay family and acts as our school's governance organization.
In place of the typical PTA, John Hay Partners was formed combining the independent PTA, Site Council, and Foundation into one team. The Partners' Board is an elected and appointed decision-making body that represents our school family, helps to design and implement Hay's academic Transformation Plan, prioritizes budget and serves as a resource to you.
The Board meets typically the 3rd Thursday of the month from 5:00-7:00 in the Hay library. All parents and staff are welcome and encouraged to attend Partners' Board meetings.
As Partners, we make a difference in the lives of Hay students. Much of the measurable progress, soaring academic performance and WASL scores, and the immeasurable heart of this school are due in large part to the involvement of John Hay families. Continued commitment and generosity of our school community make possible such programs as small group instruction in core subjects, school-wide Spanish, Pathways advanced learning, and one-to-one tutoring. Our Playground and Lunchroom Brigades, K-1 Transition Team, Memory Miles, and Pathway Garden, are a few of the many programs created through strong leadership and volunteer efforts.
We invite you to participate however you feel able. We need you to help continue the excellent educational experience at Hay! If you have any questions or suggestions, or wish to volunteer, feel free to contact us.
An Effective Partnership
Students at John Hay Elementary are reaching for the stars every day and making continued, measurable progress toward our goal of ensuring that EVERY student at every instructional level is successful. This sustained progress is possible because of John Hay’s unique, collaborative partnership that includes the principal, teachers, parents and community members. Parents and community members volunteered more than 12,000 hours in classrooms, and throughout our school, and raised more than $250,000 to support our innovative programs and academic enrichment. The results are remarkable.
| Third Grade | Fourth Grade | Fifth Grade | |
| Reading | 98.70% | 96.40% | 96.60% |
| Math | 92.10% | 83.90% | 85.00% |
| Writing | NA | 85.50% | NA |
| Science | NA | NA | 76.70% |
We are on the right track. Students are making huge strides forward as a result of our commitment of time and dollars. John Hay students are achieving at higher levels than ever before. In fact, our latest WASL scores were among the highest in the State. Our students are meeting or exceeding standards earlier, and the achievement gap between students of color and white students has been eliminated in reading and narrowed in other subjects. Progress like this does not just "happen;" we are very intentional about every program and practice. This year, we are placing an increased emphasis on mathematics instruction and teacher training.
