Public Schools produces School Beat, an
electronic newsletter, twice a month during the school year. It provides
highlights of academic initiatives, key developments, student and staff
achievements, community events and other information. Subscribe and stay
informed!
Successful Schools in Action
Successful Schools in Action is an educational non-profit working with seven
public schools, K-12, to provide collaborative and community based programs. Our
partner schools in the Queen Anne and Magnolia neighborhoods of Seattle include:
Coe, Lawton Elementary, Catharine Blaine K-8, McClure Middle
School, The Secondary Bilingual Orientation Center, and the Center School.
Cancellation of School
Cancellation
of school is done only during extraordinary circumstances such as extreme
weather, equipment failure or public crisis. Every practical means is used to
notify parents of a cancellation plan, including radio, TV and newspapers.

Everyday Math
John Hay uses Everyday Mathematics, a comprehensive
Pre-K through 6th grade mathematics curriculum developed by the University of
Chicago School Mathematics Project, and published by Wright
Group/McGraw-Hill.
Islandwood
Every year our fifth graders take a special overnight trip to Islandwood on Bainbridge Island. This educational facility is a unique 255-acre outdoor learning center designed to provide
exceptional learning experiences and to inspire lifelong environmental and
community stewardship.
