Art Program
Art education is a vital component to the enriched environment at John Hay. The Visual Arts Program provides the students with a quality art curriculum that is deeply rooted in the experiences of art making.
During this coming year, our art program will tie into the school wide theme of friendship and community.
What will your child be doing in art class?
In art classes we build our art knowledge by learning the elements and the language of art. Art education encompasses the major aspects of art-drawing, painting, three-dimensional art and two-dimensional design. The program provides opportunities to study a variety of artists, art processes and experiences in individual creative exploration.
Students look at art to learn about other cultures, places, artists and works of art. Students talk about art to discuss meanings, ideas, feelings and mood.
Students make art to create expressive visual images.
Through creating, we discover the skills of creative problem solving, artistic perception and expression. Our goal is to foster a joy of learning through the visual arts.
When will your child have art?
Art is scheduled every other week for each classroom. Children create approximately eight to twelve art projects during the school year. Classes are 50 minutes in length. This program is generously supported and funded by the John Hay Partners.
