Academic Achievement

John Hay has a wonderful blend of veteran and new teachers who are highly skilled and passionate about their work with children. Our teachers are masters of their craft and distinguished by their quest for continuous learning and improvement. We are known to be innovative, hard-working and collaborative.

We have systematically created a K-5 program that utilizes researched practices that work for all children, while creating a personalized atmosphere that honors the unique strengths and academic needs of every individual student. We forge opportunities out of obstacles and stop at nothing to attain success for our students.

Washington Assesment of Student Learning (WASL)
John Hay continues to achieve our academic goals, as evidenced by strong WASL scores. Last year in Reading, 93% of our Third graders, 97% of our Fourth graders and 98% of our Fifth graders met or exceeded standard in the WASL. These scores rank John Hay second in Seattle and fifth in Washington state.
