SCHOOL TO CAREER --
Medieval Career Interest Inventory -- What career would have suited you best in the Middle Ages? Integrates history and career development -- a fun, informative activity that's just a little different
Careers Past and Present -- This quick research project has students compare careers from different historical periods. Nice connection between history and school to career.
PHYSICAL EDUCATION --
Personal Trainer Project -- An activity that is easy to implement and relevant to many of our students' lives.
READING/BOOK REQUIREMENT --
Author Cards -- Similar to baseball cards, these contain information about authors and books. A nice alternative to a traditional book report. The idea of laminating the cards is a nice touch.
LANGUAGE ARTS --
Simile Safari -- Simple, engaging activity designed for pairs of students, but could be assigned to an individual. Nice introduction to PowerPoint.
Poetry in Music -- Students pretend to be music producers that help artists edit lyrics. Explore poetic elements and write examples.
Acrostic Poems -- This lesson is easy to implement, and can be used in with any subject matter: science, history, current events, math, etc. Students of any ability level can write acrostics, and you can challenge your more advanced students to write more complex lines. Click here to see examples from UDYC students firs try at acrostics.
SCIENCE --
Biomes -- A webquest designed for biology classes. Relatively simple, good research links, incorporates PowerPoint presentation.
Marco Polo -- The best search engine for lesson plans in all subject areas. Most of them are project based.
SOCIAL STUDIES --
Tutu and Franklin: A Journey Towards Peace -- PBS website about the two men, and the discussions they have with 21 students from the US, South Africa, and Senegal regarding race and history.
African-American Culture Links -- Loads of links to great sites with lots of information about African-American Culture. This comes from the presentation that Vince and Brenda did in December, 2003.
SCHOOL KIT --
School Kit Enactz -- a series of lessons covering a variety of subjects. This link leads to a sample lesson on metaphors that uses clip art and word processing to create a product. Very cool program. If you want to learn more, contact Kevin or Cindy N. We have a subscription to this program through June 2003.
