I started teaching with Interagency in January, 1990. I love the small class size and variety of subjects that I get to teach. I enjoy the students most of all. I feel like I learn as much from them as they learn from me. I graduated from the University of Washington, so I love being back in the U-District with all of its diversity, energy, and community support for our school. The most significant recent event in my life was the birth of my second daughter in September 2002. Trying to be a good father and creating a strong, supportive family keeps me busy in my time away from UDYC. Having children has given me a different perspective on daily life, and hopefully made me a better teacher, too.

Before moving to Seattle in 1999, I taught K-8 and Adult Education in Costa Rica for two years. I started with Interagency as a volunteer at the Orion Center, but I have been teaching at UDYC for the past 2 1/2 years. I love working with Interagency students because I tend to share many of the their interests, such as music and sports. The most significant event of my recent life was the completion of a trip over this past summer. I rode my bicycle, solo and self-supported, from Seattle, WA. to Washington, DC. For 56 days, I pedalled and camped across this beautiful nation. Along the way I managed to raise over $3,000 of unsolicited donations for the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation of the United States. The website for my trip was built and maintained by a 2001 graduate of our program: www.mikelikebike.com
