Interagency Drama Production "TUPAC: The Black Prince"

June 2002
Participating Sites: YEP, UDYC, and Fairview
Performance Venue: Langston Hughes

The world of late rapper Tupac Shakur extended beyond his music. Tupac: The Black Prince explored the contradictions between his poetic expression and his street credibility. Suggested by one of the students, the universal appeal of this topic was one that immediately captivated interest and sparked creativity. Video interviews were conducted at multiple Interagency sights and the project soon encompassed student performances, original songs and footage of Tupac himself. This 'rose that grew from concrete' was a true contemporary hero and continues to influence years after his death.

Listen to Jaala Hollingsworth and TC Armstrong singing some of Tupac's music and some of their own compositions based on Tupac's writing.
