Interagency Drama Production "Rapunzel Remix"

Rapunzel Remix
July 2002
Participating Sites: YEP and YO
Performance Venue: Open Circle Theater

Based upon the traditional fairy tale, Rapunzel Remix offered the students a guided opportunity to play with the genre, using sophisticated storytelling techniques and composing original songs for this adaptation. Working in a professional theatre alongside the playwright allowed for the freedom and experimentation necessary for this highly imaginative collaboration to successfully take place; parts for the actors were tailor made by author Nick Zagone, an Open Circle Theater company member and professional playwright, during the rehearsal process. Examples of everyday objects morphing into other uses included a chair becoming a car and a bolt of fabric substituting for Rapunzel's hair.
