School Services

Student Intervention Team (SIT):

Occasionally a child will experience continuing difficulties at school. Parents and the school SIT team (Student Intervention Team) will seek to discover ways to help the child with his/her learning problems. This team will assess the child and consult with parents and other school personnel in developing an appropriate educational program to assist the youngster in reaching his/her fullest potential. If you have any questions about this team of professionals, please call the school.

School Counselor:

Highland Park is fortunate to have the services of a full-time counselor, Clare Sommers. As students develop into responsible, self-disciplined learners, they must acquire appropriate decision-making and social skills. The school counselor is able to help individual students and groups identify and define problem behaviors, develop problem-solving skills, and learn prevention measures. Issues are discussed in an atmosphere of self-respect, respect for one-another, and respect for the learning environment. Emphasis is placed on positive behavior, growth, and behavior related consequences. Ms. Sommers is also available to consult with staff and parents regarding individual student concerns. If you have any questions, or if you need assistance, please give her a call at 206-252-8247. To go to the school counseling page, click here.
