Welcome:

I’m new to Highland Park Elementary this year, and I have some big shoes to fill.  As the Technology Specialist, I’m taking over where the great Kent Daniels left off before he moved back into the classroom at Orca.  In addition to working with the students in the computer lab, I also teach 4th grade mathematics and work with the staff integrating technology and curriculum.

Last year we installed a new lab and upgraded computers throughout the school. The new technology allows students to explore and learn many new technical skills that would have been nearly impossible on our old equipment. Since everything is new, I will be discovering the capabilities right along with the students. As I develop a new curriculum that takes advantage of our new tools, I’ll try to keep you informed through this page. For now, let me just say that the technology program here at Highland park will continue to focus on developing technical skills while providing students with multiple opportunities to increase their basic mathematics, writing, reading and research proficiency. In addition, there will now be a strong multimedia and communication component that is made possible with our new equipment. One of the things I am most excited about is the ability to have an enhanced video production unit.

Just last year, our teachers received new document cameras and video projectors. This will allow students and teachers to project anything that can be set on a table up onto the classroom screen. With this addition, every classroom now has the ability to show anything that is brought in or found on the web to the whole class. Now teachers and students have an almost unlimited supply of learning resources at their fingertips they can use these for projects and presentations and be shown to a whole classroom audience. The possibilities are endless.

You’ll have to come and see the new lab. For pictures, click here.
