At Highland Park, we are aligning our writing curriculum from kindergarten through 5^th grade based upon the State of Washington Essential Academic Learning Requirements (EALRs) but with a focus on the Six Traits of Writing and through the use of the writing process. Students get a unified writing experience starting with drawing pictures and doing word captions in kindergarten and then advancing to writing for different audiences and purposes in the fifth grade.
