Our Favorite Books

 

Some of Highland Park staff share their favorite book titles:

 

Debbie Clinton Bailey: My favorite kid's book is Ramona the Pest by Beverly Cleary, My favorite adult author is Barbara Taylor Bradford.

 

Jacquie Bowen: My favorite children's book is Little Peep. My favorite adult book is The Red Tent by Anita Diamant, 1998

 

Kent Daniels: My favorite kid’s book of all time is I Am The Cheese by Robert Cormier. It is for older kids. It’s a mystery that takes place on several levels and it has a stunning ending. My favorite little kids book is Millions of Cats. I think the author is Wanda Gag. My favorite adult book, without question is The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck, but Of Human Bondage by E. Somerset Maugham and Lord of the Flies by William Golding rate a close second.

 

Nina Evangelista: Kid book - No David!  by David Shannon and Click, Clack Moo.  Adult book:  Love in the Time of Cholera by Gabriel Garcia Marquez

 

Brian Gaynor: Kid book- Old Yeller   Adult book- Lonesome Dove

 

Marjorie Habbestad: My favorite book is a tough choice. I decided my favorite kid’s book is Where the Red Fern Grows by Rawls, W. And my favorite adult book is David Copperfield by Dickens.

 

Judy Hossner: My favorite children's title(s): The Little House series by Laura Ingalls Wilder. I enjoy reading cookbooks from different lands, gardening, history, historical fiction, and mysteries. One of my favorite mystery series is written by Susan Crofton.

 

Mari Ikeda-Gomes: Favorite book(s): Wayside School Series,   James and the Giant Peach,  Super Fudge Series, Half Magic

Adult book(s): Bill Cosby (all of them), Books about birds, Alaska, eagles, and whales!

 

Julie Miller: My favorite kid’s book is the Velveteen Rabbit, I really have so many. Likewise for adult books, but I loved The Secret Life of Bees.

 

Pam Rago: I love the Amelia Bedelia series written by Peggy Parish and when I finished the adult book  Angels and Demons by Ron Brown I decided that was the best book I had read in a long time.  The author kept me riveted and I was able to visualize the story as if I was one of the characters.

 

Clarissa Resendez: My favorite children's series right now is by Kathryn Lasky and is called The Guardians of Ga'Hoole.  The first book is The Capture.  The last adult book I enjoyed was Bait and Switch:  The (Futile) Pursuit of the American Dream by Barbara Ehrenreich.

 

Pam Robert: Favorite children's book: Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak Favorite adult book: A Lesson Before Dying by Ernest Gains, Jr.

 

Mike Russell: My favorite children's books are the Hobbit by J.R.R.Tolkein, and The Rainbow Goblins by Ul de Rico.

My favorite adult  book is The Prophet by Kahlil Gebran.
