Highland Park’s 3rd Graders participated in a
T-shirt design contest to raise awareness of global climate change called
Climate Action Now. Although our students didn’t win the actual t-shirt
contest, three of our students’ artwork will be featured in a calendar
published by the city. All students were given an “energy saver”
certificate, and the event was sponsored by the Mayor’s office, the Seattle
Art Museum, Nordstrom’s and the Seattle School District. The contest was
open to students citywide in grades K-12. Several Highland Park students
and their families, along with Ms. Drake, our multi-arts teacher, were able
to attend the celebration and award event at the sculpture garden pavilion
of the Seattle Art Museum. They were greeted and honored by Mayor Nickels. These are pictures of
the event.
