Greetings to the visitors of our home page!

The students of Room 205 have a busy and productive day of learning.  We have Math, PCP (PE, Multi-Arts, Library or Computers), Writing and Reading in the morning.  In the afternoon we Social Studies and Science.

Important Dates:

October 29, 2008 Early Release

October 29, 2008 Spooktacular

November 17 to 25 Parent Teacher Conferences

BIOGRAPHY NIGHT COMES TO THE FOURTH GRADE!

The 4th and 5th grade students will attend the YMCA Camp Seymour from January 7 to 9, 2008.  This trip is connected to our science curriculum, deeply tied to our study of the different systems that make up our natural world.

The students in the 4th grade will be participating in Biography Night (January 23, 2008), a sort of living museum where the students perform as people from history.

The students are currently researching the person they have chosen.  They are making timelines and soon they will begin writing their speeches.

Math:  We are learning about geometry, data (tally charts, line plots and bar graphs), addition and subtraction strategies for three and four digit numbers.  In our next math unit we will be learning multiplication and division strategies and algebra.

Writing: Narrative, expository, persuasive and personal letter.

Science:  Students will be studying food chemistry.

Social Studies:  The students are learning about the World and  Washington State History Geography.  We are also learning about being good citizens and treating each other with respect.

Homework: There will be homework given Monday-Thursday. Students will read for 30 minutes every evening. On Friday a Reading Log will be due, where the students will write in what they read, a summary and a connection that you will be asked to sign. The students also have math homework every night.  On Fridays they will write a reflection about what they learned during the week and how they feel about their learning.  This should be signed by a parent or guardian and returned on Monday.

A note about math homework:

If your student ever comes home and isn’t sure how to solve their math, please feel free to use your expertise to help them. If they are unable to finish it, all they need to do is bring back the sheet and write me a note about what they have questions about. Homework is simply an opportunity to practice what we’ve learned in class, so if there are still questions, it’s not a problem and we can all work through them together. Also, at the beginning of each math unit, you will get a letter home that has guidance for the homework.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. I am available to talk to you in person before or after school. You can also call me at 252-8293 or e-mail me at:  lknorman@seattleschools.org.
