Welcome to Kindergarten Room 102 Winter Dear
Families, We’ve
been so busy here in Room 102. Each
week we learn a new letter. So far we
have learned /Aa/, /Bb/, /Dd/, /Ee/, /Ff/, /Hh/,/Ii/, /Jj/, /Kk/, /Mm/, /Nn/,
/Pp/, /Rr/, /Ss/, and /Tt/. We will
add /Cc/, /Ll/, /Oo/, and /Gg/ before our mid winter break. Besides knowing the names and sounds of the
words, we are able to s-t-r-e-t-c-h out words during Writers’ Workshop to
write down what we want to say! We
have learned so much! Don't
forget to keep practicing reading the word wall words with your Kindergarten
student. We have the following 19
words on our wall- a, and, at, can, did, go, had, in, it, is, I
like, my, me, on, so, the, to, and up.
As high frequency words, the faster your child
can recognize these words, the more fluent they will be as readers. I appreciate your helping at home. We
are learning how to skip count by 2s, 5s, and 10s. We practice counting forward and backward
and we can even start at a number other than 1! We’ve been reviewing shapes, probability,
measurement, addition and subtraction, problem solving, sequencing, patterns,
and graphing. See…I told you we’ve
been busy! J In
Science and Social Studies we’ve learned about bears, penguins, and Dr.
Martin Luther King. Upcoming units and
themes include: dental health, friendship, Chinese New Year, Groundhog’s Day,
and Presidents’ Day Please continue to read to your kindergarten child each night and
return books and folders to school the next day. Remember that the single most important
thing you can do to help your child become a better reader is to listen to
your child practice reading! Thank you for your support! Sincerely, Molly Newton Kindergarten Teacher |
