Dear Room 101 Families, Welcome to November!!! We have been doing a lot of
reading and writing with:
3. Words: I’m, I, the, to, a, is, my, go, me, and like. I have been sending home the magazines
we use as part of our reading program and the books that come with them. Please let your child read them to
you. You can keep the magazines at
home, but I need the books back every Wednesday. In math, we have been
talking about measurement comparisons (lengths), shapes, counting,
recognizing and writing numbers from 0-10, attributes and sorting, volume,
graphs, patterns, coin recognition, spatial vocabulary, estimation, addition
and subtraction number stories, and symmetry. In health, we finished our
unit about “How to Stay Safe”. We are
now going to start our unit “Adventure In Food” (food needs for life,
healthful or less healthful, good food comes in many forms, before we
eat-food handling). In science, we will be
working on our unit about “Fabrics” until December. We have been exploring about what our
senses tell us about different kinds of fabrics. Some of the other activities will be making
a fabric collage and taking fabric apart. You have been getting an
envelope everyday Wednesday with information from the school and/or from the
classroom. Thanks for signing it and
sending it back the following day. That
tells me you checked the information sent to you. If you receive papers to fill out and sign,
please do so as soon as possible. Every Wednesday, I’ll be
sending a folder with most of the papers your child has been doing at
school. Please look at them with your child
and KEEP THEM AT HOME! If you see a stamp on the papers, that
means your child did a very good job.
If you see a check mark, that means your child didn’t finish or s/he
could have done better at following the instructions. Every Wednesday, I will
also send in the folder a small packet of homework to review what we have
been learning in the class. It will be
due on the following Wednesday. My
goal is for the homework to be done with guidance and help from home, especially
in tracing letters and numbers (from top to bottom and from left to
right). That’s the hardest part for me
to do when I have all the kids at once and it’s very important because when they get to 3rd grade,
writing in cursive won’t be too hard.
Please make sure the homework gets done with a pencil and when need
it, crayons or color pencils. NO PENS
OR MARKERS please. Remember to also read everyday with your
child in English or the language spoken at home! If you ever have questions
or concerns, please feel free to contact me by sending a note with your
child, by e-mailing me at kewieland@seattleschools.org,
or by calling me at (206)252-8260. If
you want to get information about what’s happening at school, please check
our wonderful web page at http://www.seattleschools.org/schools/hpel/101.htm. Sincerely, Ms. Wieland |
