You are now standing in front of one of the oldest hardware stores in Seattle, Tweedy & Popp.

In 1920, Tweedy & Popp was founded where the current Moon Temple Restaurant is now located. Mr. Popp was in the plumbing business and decided to open a hardware store in his later years with his friend Mr. Tweedy who retired shortly after the business was started. Mr. Popp lived into the ‘50s and passed away.

When Bill's father visited us that was his regular hangout. It was even then. This was a long time ago. This was 20 years ago at least. But, he made his way right to Tweedy & Popp and recognized it as his natural environment. It looks just the same. We drove past it today coming over here, and it still looks like a neighborhood hardware store.

When you walk into Tweedy & Popp hardware, you will find many useful tools. Mainly paint, cooking utensils, drill bits, barbed wire, gardening tools, pots, plants, keys, and screws, nuts, and bolts - which are all weighed by an old scale from the original Tweedy & Popp hardware store.

It's one of the great old neighborhood hardware stores that's still around. It hasn't been chased out of business by the big megastores. So, I go there when I can and when I need something and don't feel like driving anywhere. I just walk there. [Geoffrey Braden]
