You're now standing in front of the first Asian restaurant in Wallingford, the Moon Temple Chinese restaurant.
When you stand outside you will see Moon Temple in large writing. Once you walk inside, you will see pictures of historical places in China hanging on the walls.
Waitress: I think just those pictures are new... These haven't changed at all...
When you are seated you will sit on nicely cushioned seats. You will hear the thud of dishes and the clanking of utensils.
Chinese people came to Seattle to build the railroads. After the railroad were built, many Chinese people lost their jobs and had to create new jobs. In the 1880's Chinatown developed and many Chinese businesses opened. Soon white Americans were blaming foreigners, including the Chinese, for the lack of jobs. Moon Temple was opened in 1948 by a Chinese family who wanted to introduce the Chinese culture to the predominately white neighborhood of Wallingford.
Waitress: The interesting thing is that most of the customers are American...
Goeff Braden: The Moon Temple was there when I was a kid...
Moon Temple food is not traditional Chinese food. It's mostly Americanized.
Waitress: I think this food is made for American people...
The Moon Temple restaurant has stayed the same over the years and will probably remain the same for years to come. We've heard many good things about Moon Temple and we hope that you will go and visit it soon!
