New Years Day

by Lisa

When I was little kid, on New Years Day my mom was hiding something from me. I wanted to sneak in and find out what it was. Then I finally knew what it was. It was a little red envelope. The red envelope has gold designs and there is a picture on it too. The red envelope is called in Vietnamese “li xi” and the shape of it is square.

One side of it is so shiny; it makes my eyes all teary. It felt so soft I wanted to crumple it up. The red envelope was kind of heavy. I wanted to open it but my mom would know that I opened it. The red envelope means it will give you good luck for the coming year. I went out of my mom’s room and pretended that nothing happened. Then my mom came up to me and gave me the red envelope and she said, “Happy New Years”! I was so happy I opened the red envelope I saw a lot of money. At night I was thinking about the red envelope and what a wonderful day I had.
