The celebration that I chose is New Year. Close to New Year my family buys
fruits, bread, and new clothes. Then we clean the house.
In the early morning my mom would go to the market to buy custard apple (trai
thom), coconut (Trai dua), papaya (Thu du), and mangos (Trai xoai). As for bread,
my mom would buy Banh Tet, Banh in. When my mom got home I asked my mom, “Why
did you buy all these food?”. My mom said, “All this food is needed
for New Year”. I asked my mom, “Can I eat Banh Tet?” My mom
said, “ No.” I said “Why mom?” My mom said, “Because
we need to pray first, and then eat after.” After my mom said that, I
had to wait for two hours. Then I could eat after she prayed. Banh Tet is made with sweet rice, wrapped with banana leaves and they are very long.
When we eat it, we can tell it contains sweet rice, and meat and green beans.
It is very sticky and soft. It takes a long time to cook. That’s why when
we eat it, it seems chewy and sweet. It also smells like rice and sweet rice.
When New Year comes, every house has to light up a firecracker. The sound of firecrackers sounds very loud and wonderful. And spring blossoms bloom beautifully in the sun. New Year is very crowded and fun. I wish every day was New Year, because it gives everyone laughter and happiness, and gives every one a successful year.
