The Thistle Theatre came to John Stanford International School to perform shows of The Magic Tea Kettle, a Japanese tale. They perform the Bunraku style of puppetry, a variation of an ancient form of Japanese puppetry. Puppeteers dress all in black, and operate the puppets from behind. It sometimes takes three people to handle one puppet.
After the performances students attended mini-workshops where they were able to see how the puppets were made and to practice working together as a team to make the puppets move in realistic ways.

Thistle Theatre's performances and mini-workshops were sponsored by the International Arts Consortium, which serves John Stanford International School and Hamilton International Middle School, with major funding from Washington State Arts Commission, the International Business Breakfast, and PTSAs at each school. Thanks to John Stanford International School Librarian, Sarah Wakefield, for hosting Thistle Theatre.
