| Funding for construction for a remodeled Hamilton was included in the February 2007 school levy. The plan is for Hamilton to move temporarily to the Lincoln site in the Fall of 2008 for two years. Hamilton should be in a newly renovated building for the beginning of the 2010-2011 school year. This year's fifth-graders will have 8th grade in the new building! A School Design Team (SDT) of faculty, administration, staff, parents, and community members began meeting regularly in the Winter of 2006 to define the school's requirements and work towards a building design. If you have any questions, you can reach Michael Romero, Hamilton International Middle School Project Manager, at 206.254.7973 or mbromero@heery.com. |

Mar. 2006 At the March 24th meeting, the SDT members once again laid out the building using construction paper blocks, but this time the layout was on three storeys, using the existing Hamilton property and building. Three-storey clear plexiglass models let the members view the relationship of classrooms, offices, auditoriums and other uses vertically, and to envision how students would circulate through the building. |

Mar. 2006 In late March, SDT members met to begin to develop initial ideas for the school design. Using construction paper "blocks" SDT members built maps of the school, showing all of the classroom, office, gym, and other needs of the school, and placing them in relation to each other. |

||||||
Jan. - Mar. 2006 In January, SDT members toured Madison Middle School in West Seattle, and Redmond Junior High School in Redmond to look at some recently constructed/remodeled schools. In early March, SDT members had a day-long retreat, with exercises to help define the school's character, and to imagine what the school could be like in five years in a newly rebuilt building. |
