University of Washington

The University of Washington Speaker's Bureau will provide speakers on a wide variety of topics. A list of speakers and a form to request a speaker are both available on their web site: http://depts.washington.edu/visitors/UWSpeakers.html

The ESL Program at the UW has students representing Asian, Latin American, Arabic, and occasionally European, Russian, and African cultures. Many students are looking for opportunities to share their culture and to practice speaking English. The ESL Advising Office maintains contact with all of our students in the Intensive English Language Program. The Foundation for International Understanding Through Students (FIUTS) is an organization of UW International students. The UW Department of Engineered Biomaterials (UWEB) outreach teams, comprised of graduate students & staff, visit classrooms in the Seattle area to present a brief introduction to bioengineering followed by a hands-on design challenge. They might even do a demonstration with the Body Bag The body bag contains an assortment of "body parts" - implantable biomaterials with a variety of purposes (hip and knee replacements, vascular graft devices, artificial heart valves, etc.) . World Affairs Council

International and internationally-engaged residents of the Puget Sound area participate in school visits and share their knowledge of countries, cultures, or international topics with students of all different ages and educational backgrounds. Participants include international students, Fulbright scholars, returned Peace Corps volunteers and local business people.
