My
most memorable Chinese New Year is when I was seven years old. Because on Chinese
New Year I can get a lot of money from the red envelope and I can buy everything
I like. I go around and wish the grown-ups best of luck for the coming year.
Chinese follow the lunar calendar. In the lunar calendar, December 28th is the day everyone cleans their house and decorates their house. So on that day everyone works hard to have the best appearance because, it is believed that it will bring good luck! In the lunar calendar December 30th is the last day of the year. It is ritual to have all family members gather for the last meal of the year! My mom and my aunt start cooking early in the morning to prepare for this meal. The food I like in Chinese New Year is the year cake. It is sweet. Fat choy cake is another food I like. It is also sweet; fat choy is a kind of vegetable that looks like hair.
In the lunar calendar the first day of the year you don't visit your relatives or your friends because it is believed that day if you go visit anyone you might bring bad luck or receive bad luck.
