Chinese
New Year is an important holiday for the majority of Chinese. The Chinese celebrate
Chinese New Year in a very special way. My family looks forward to Chinese New
Year because we have a lot of fun.
Before the New Year, my parents clean the house and decorate the house for this special event.
On New Year's Day morning, I was woken up by firecracker sounds everywhere. I saw my mom and my dad cooked a lot of food in the kitchen. My dad turned on the music. I wore new clothes to welcome the New Year. An hour later, my dad began to light the firecrackers. I covered my ears, but I still heard the loud sound of the firecrackers. Awhile later, we eat delicious food. My parents had prepared chicken, shrimp, beef, fish, duck, green lettuce, cauliflower, cabbage, and beans. The food smelled delicious. I can't wait to taste the delicious foods. I taste the food. It is yummy. I pick up a chicken leg with my chopsticks. The chicken leg's skin was slippery, and it looked nasty. But I smelled and tasted it; it tasted yummy. After eating, my sister and I said "Cung Hay Fat Choy!" to my parents. They gave my sister and I a li-si (a red envelope). I opened it. Inside was $20. I was so happy, and then I helped my parents to wash the dishes. The soap water felt warm and slippery. It was lucky I didn't break any dishes. If I break the dishes, that means I have bad luck for the rest of the year. I went to visit my relatives; they gave me a li-si. After I visited my relatives I went out with my friends. We gamble to see how our luck will be for the coming year. I have a lot of fun on Chinese New Year.
