Chinese New Year

by Daniel from China

Lunar New Year is my favorite holiday. I enjoy gathering with my family, relatives and friends; we have a big feast. On New Year's Day my mom and neighbors prayed to a goddess and burned incense for our ancestors. My aunt and my uncle came to my house and wished my parents "Cung Hay Fat Choy." I also wished by uncles and aunts good luck for the New Year. I followed my mom to the kitchen to help prepare the food. We cooked steamed chicken, B.B.Q. duck, roasted pork, chow mien, vegetable and salad. The food smelled great. I can't wait to taste the food. I helped set the table for the New Year's dinner. I helped my mom chop the chicken and duck. I put the food on the table and then invited my grandparents, parents, and uncles, aunts, cousins to the dinner table. Everything looked delicious. There were over ten different kinds of food on the table. My favorite food is B.B.Q. duck; my uncle and my aunt like to eat steamed chicken.

After dinner my mom, my uncle, and my aunt played a Chinese card game called 13. We gamble with money. It was very fun. The next day, my mom took me to the temple to see the lion dance and dragon dance. They danced very well and I heard firecrackers and drumbeats. It was a very loud and cheerful sound.
