The
round moon shines brightly in the clear night sky. It looks like the yolk in
a moon cake. Suddenly I remember today is August 15 which is the Mid-Autumn
Festival. Mid-Autumn Festival is one of the three most important annual Chinese
festivals. On Mid-Autumn Festival my mom cooks some special food for dinner.
After dinner we eat moon cake. While we eat moon cake my mom always tells me
the story about it:
Many centuries ago, there was a king. People in the village disliked the king and they wanted another king. So they wrote a message on a small paper, put it in the moon cake, and delivered it to another villager to tell him what to do. They didn't say it with their mouths because they where afraid they might get killed if the king heard it, so they used moon cake the deliver the message. When they got a new king they celebrate this day by eating moon cake and admire the moon because the moon on that day is the brightest and roundest in the night sky.
After the story we always go outside on the deck and play with lanterns. Sometimes between playing we would view the moon with appreciation.
