"Go!"
yells a director who is dressed in ancient Chinese clothes. The clothes are
as long and colorful as the colors of the rainbow. Then, several Dragon Boats
begin to race in the light blue lake. The dragon boat features the head and
tail of a dragon. Then a couple of people begin to drum on the boats. Finally
I realize that today is the fifth day of the fifth moon of the lunar calendar,
which is the Dragon Boats Festival, also known as the Double Fifth Festival.
It is one of the three important annual Chinese festivals. The other two are
the Mid-Autumn Festival and Chinese New Year.
Suddenly, the audiences cheer, because one of the Dragon Boat teams won the race. Then later, everyone starts to leave the lake. I walk back to my uncle's house with my cousins. On the streets, I smell a delicious aroma of a food called Tzungtzu. It is rice wrapped in bamboo leaves, stuffed with ham, beans, bean paste, salted egg yokes, sausages, nuts, and/or vegetables. I love to eat Tzungtzu because when I bite it, the rice feels so soft and good against my mouth.
When I step in my uncle's house, I smell many fantastic smells. I run to the kitchen. I see my mom, aunts, and grandma cooking chickens, fish, roasted pork, and vegetables. I love this holiday because it has so many foods and fun activities. I think I will continue to celebrate this holiday because it represents the teamwork and cooperation of the Chinese people.
