2007-2008 Action Plan 4      School:  Nathan Hale High School

Goal:    Improve pro-social opportunities and rewards for students at Nathan Hale with focus on eliminating the disproportionality in discipline.

Strategy:  Develop a climate of decency, respect, and trust and further our work in becoming a more democratic school; particular focus on mentorship of at-risk students through connections with staff, Upward Bound, Pathways, school-wide mentorship classes, and MESA.

Rationale:  For maximum learning to occur, students need to feel supported and respected and that they have an authentic say in their education.

How did staff participate in setting this strategy?  Transformation committee; Courageous Conversations about race and institutional racism; participation in mentorship

What data identifies the need that leads us to this goal?  Student climate survey indicates a “significant decrease” in index numbers for the categories of Pro-Social Involvement Opportunities and Pro-Social Involvement Awards; discipline data provided by district
