The World Friends Pages

The World Friends Resources and Disabilities pages were inspired by the work of former Nathan Hale student Wai Kin Chiu. Wai Kin managed a LISTSERV group called WORLD FRIENDS FOR THE DISABLED which reached people in several countries.

These pages were created with several purposes in mind:

  • To provided a place for WFFTD members and friends to post information to which they could refer their keypals
  • To create an international forum for disabled students which would serve as a means to increase their motivation to write well, or in some cases, to write at all.
  • To provide access to newspapers, magazines and books for people whose mobility or sensory abilities are restricted.
  • To provide disability information for people with disabilities and teachers of people with disabilities.
  • To create a miniature Internet Portal for users.
  • Later, a section on Internet Cameras was added. The idea was to provide a sense of freedom and expansiveness to individuals who were house or wheelchair bound. Why not watch an ocean sunset in California, while you write your email?
