A few examples of project-based learning and the student work associated with it.

 


 

Epidemic Project  - Students examine the social, cultural, political and biological aspects of pandemics. (2008 only - Current Students looking for documentation should refer to this year's documentation)

Prometheus Project- Students research the effects of technology on society in the early 20th Century.

 

 

Art Class - Ms. Kuznetz displays the work of her drawing, painting and ceramic classes.

 

 

Renaissance Art Project 09 08 07 - The impact of the northern migration of African Americans during the '20s and '30s is examined from the perspective art and culture.

.

 

Senior Culminating Project - Students demonstrate their growth and learning by completing a culminating project that both explores a learning area of their interest and demonstrates citizenship through service. High school learning is connected to future goals and plans.

Mock Trial - Using a trial format to evaluate the actions of characters in the novel The Lord of the Flies, students debate the nature of free will, personal responsibility, altruism, and Social Dawinism.

 

Math Heroes - Students research the contributions of mathematicians across cultures and throughout history.

 

 

 

Authors of Change - Utilizing local humanitarian agencies, students study the impact which individuals can have on social problems. (2008 only - Current Students looking for documentation should refer to this year's documentation)

 

 

Integrated Science/Art Project - Ninth grade students engage in visual literacy training which can be applied during their four years at Hale; art is integrated into the existing curriculum.

 

Mural Project - Students express their understanding of Latin American history using the popular media of murals (currently in progress)

 


---- Archive: Projects from the Past ----

Densho Project - Students explore first-hand accounts of Japanese American internment survivors who were unjustly incarcerated during World War II. The project includes a cultural immersion experience.

 

North Korea Summit - Students conduct a special summit on Nuclear Weapons in North Korea. Students will adopt a nation which will present a plan to address N. Korea's nuclear program based on its own perspective and interests.

 

Meteorology Project - Students gain an elementary understanding of the underlying physics and chemistry of weather, as well as developing a basic familiarity with the weather systems that affect the continental US.
