Epidemic Individual Project ![]() Guidelines Guiding Questions 1. How do the
political, economic, social/cultural, and technological status
quo ("norms") play a part in your assigned epidemic? 2. In what ways is a system like a jigsaw puzzle? Format Each person in the group has been
assigned to research one of the PEST
subtopics. From this research, each student will create a "Puzzle Piece" to contribute to the group's poster. Here are the criteria for the Individual Puzzle Piece: a. Minimum size
of 8.5" x 11" and shaped like a piece of jigsaw puzzle
b. Focused on ONE of the PEST subtopics (and clearly titled) c. Contains well-researched responses to the questions below d. Has color pictures, clear titles, and original text e. As a rule of thumb—1/3 should be images and 2/3 should be text f. Good use of space—not too crowded, not too sparse g. Neat and organized Here are the criteria for the Final Group Puzzle Poster a. Has a central puzzle
piece that provides the following information:
1. What is the time period and location of the epidemic? 2. A map that shows the affected area(s) 3. A brief explanation of the illness (transmission, symptoms, treatments, mortality rate) b. Has the four PEST puzzle pieces branching out from the central one h. Has an MLA-style bibliography on a SEPARATE SHEET OF PAPER taped to the back. Bibliography should have at least eight sources (2 per PEST) Information to Include on Each Puzzle Piece ++ What
specific
parts of the system does your PEST subtopic represent++
Suggestions and Helpful Tips++ How has your PEST subtopic contributed to the spread of disease++ ++ Include and cite data, graphs, diagrams and tables as support and provide evidence for your responses a. The purpose
of the poster is to EXPLAIN the NORMS
that have contributed to
the epidemic. b. You will be given a primary source AND be assigned to find two additional sources of information, but you may need more to complete this assignment. Reading logs will be assigned (explained in class.) c. ALL sources of information, pictures, and data must be cited in your bibliography. d. You may use a computer program like MS Publisher or MS Word to make your puzzle piece. Likewise, you can NEATLY cut and paste your puzzle piece together. e. A draft of your puzzle piece layout will be due on Wed, October 31, 2007. f. The final poster with attached bibliography will be due Thursday, November 1, 2007. |
