Grader’s Name:                                                                 Name of Student Being Graded:

Directions:  Fill out the top portion of this rubric for the INDIVIDUAL who had the same PEST subtopic that you did.  Fill out the bottom part of the rubric for the GROUP as a whole.

WHAT DOES THE PIECE SAY?

HOW DOES THE PIECE LOOK?

IS CREDIT GIVEN TO SOURCES?

A

Student includes MORE THAN TWO ways that the PEST subtopic has contributed to the spread of disease.

The emphasis is clearly on NORMS

Useful and relevant maps, data tables, charts and/or graphs are included and thoroughly analyzed in student’s own words

Information goes way beyond a collection of “facts and statistics” to include in-depth analysis of the system

Puzzle Piece is neat and orderly with clear headings and sub-headings.

Relevant images lead the reader through the piece and supplement the written material.

Space is used wisely.

Puzzle Piece is colorful

MLA format is correctly used—author and date are given for every fact, quote, statistic, and piece of data.

2 or more sources are cited on the Puzzle Piece.

B

Student includes TWO ways that the PEST subtopic has contributed to the spread of disease.

The emphasis is clearly on NORMS

Useful and relevant maps, data tables, charts and/or graphs are included but analysis could go a bit deeper

Information goes somewhat beyond a collection of “facts and statistics” to include in-depth analysis of the system

Puzzle Piece is neat and orderly.  Most headings and sub-headings aid the reader.

Images included, but formatting or layout could be improved.

Font is too large or too small.

MLA format is used with 1-2 errors.

2 sources are cited.

C

Student includes only ONE way that the PEST subtopic has contributed to the spread of disease, or some important PEST information is missing.

NORMS are emphasized, but there seems to be some random information just to fill up space

Some relevant maps, charts and/or graphs.  Very little student-generated analysis.

Information is mostly a collection of “facts and statistics” about the disease and/or epidemic

Organization could use moderate improvement.

Images do not help the reader understand the material.

Space used inconsistently

MLA format is used with many errors.

1to 2 sources are cited.

D/N

PEST information is inadequate.

Focus of puzzle piece is unclear.

NORMS are not clearly emphasized.

Charts, maps and/or graphs are irrelevant and/or not analyzed and/or not included.

Organization needs major improvement.

Piece is either dominated by written text or images—there is not a balance between the two.

Layout leads reader to confusion rather than clarity.

MLA format is not used.

Only 1 source is cited.

Group Score--Bibliography

A

Overall, the poster tells the whole story about the NORMS (causes) of this epidemic

Central piece is very thorough and descriptive

This is clearly an example of everyone’s best work.  Pictures and text are well organized.  Viewer’s eye is led from one idea to the next.  Color and spacing add to visual appeal.

A Bibliography is attached to the back of the poster.

Bibliography provides more than 8 sources

MLA format is used without error.

B

Overall, the poster tells most of the story about the NORMS that led to this epidemic

Central piece is mostly thorough and descriptive

This is an example of strong work, but perhaps not everyone’s best work.  Poster is neat and organized, but perhaps not as creative, colorful, and/or visually appealing.

A Bibliography is attached to the back of the poster.

Bibliography provides 8 sources

MLA format is used with a few errors.

C

Overall, this poster leaves out some important NORMS that led to this epidemic.

Central piece provides only the most basic facts.

This is an example of decent or average work.  Poster could be considerably more organized, neater and/or more creative.

A Bibliography is attached to the back of the poster.

Bibliography provides fewer than 8 sources

MLA format is used with several errors.

D/N

Overall, this poster does a poor job of explaining how the PEST conditions (NORMS) led to this epidemic.  Central piece is inadequate.

This is an example of sloppy and careless work.  Poster is not organized, neat nor creative.

Students do not use MLA format and/or provide only a few (1-3) sources on their bibliography OR a bibliography is not included.
