Young Artists Program

OPERA

HOME

Each year, Seattle Opera auditions and accepts ten to fifteen aspiring professional opera singers into their Young Artists Program. These already accomplished singers are putting the finishing touches on their preparations for careers with opera companies throughout the world. In this regard, the program functions similarly to a medical internship or an academic post-doctorate. Besides singing in their own fully-staged productions in the spring, these young artists participate in yet another aspect of Seattle Opera’s education outreach – the school visit program. Nathan Hale students can take advantage of both opportunities to hear these future stars of the opera stage.

  • On November 14, 2007 members of the Young Artists Program will perform Leonard Bernstein’s Trouble in Tahiti in Nathan Hale’s PAC. Besides making it incredibly easy for students to access opera, these visits allow high school students who are considering singing and/or theatrical careers to get advice and insight from performers not that much older than themselves during the post-performance Q & A sessions. The performance starts at 1:30 p.m. and will end at 3:00 p.m. All members of the Hale community are welcome to attend.

  • In late March and early April, members of the Young Artists Program will perform in full-staged productions of two operas: Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi and Ravel’s L’enfant et les sortileges. The performances will be held in Bellevue at the Meydenbauer Theater and in the Capitol Hill Arts Center; exact times and dates TBD. The Nathan Hale Opera Club will go to one or both of these shows; more information to come later in the year.
