Ms. Hechtman Welcomes 2005 Naha Students
| March 16, 2005 It is with great pleasure that I welcome each of you here today on behalf of the entire Hale community of students, staff, parents, and community members. You all join us today to welcome Mr. Nakayama, principal of Naha Senior High School, Mr. Tomiyama, a teacher, and their students as they visit our school and the greater Seattle community. Today, we celebrate 30 years of friendship with the people of our sister school in Naha, Japan. We have enjoyed the time we have been able to share with the students and look forward to the next several days with Mr. Nakayama as we share our learning and culture and learn about yours. With your visit we make connections with each other that develops our relationship. Further, our exchange provides a greater realization of how similar we are as members of humanity while providing the opportunity to appreciate the cultures and experiences that shape our understanding. Goethe said that “he who knows no foreign language does not truly know his own.” We appreciate your participation in this exchange as we grow as people, learning more about ourselves as we learn about each other. Mr. Nakayama, Mr. Tomiyama, and students of Naha, Nathan Hale welcomes you! |
