Latin
American Project
The Projects"Faces of Revolution: The Many Faces of Change" Lavan's Class Our
group is addressing our class theme
in
three
different ways. Different groups of students will be creating a mural
using different artistic elements, performing four different aspects
of our theme, and producing a video documentation reflecting the major
theme of "Faces of evolution".
Our class theme is focusing on
the people who played a major role
during Latin American revolutions entitled "Faces of the
Revolution". As a class we felt that it was important to
recognize each individual who contributed to these revolutions
throughout
history and we also thought that the people who have made a difference
in the world in the recent
past should be recognized. As a class we thought that the Sandinistas
and Sub-commadante
Marcos would best represent people fighting for freedom and the
struggle for land ownership.Diego Riverra and Frida Kahlo would best
relate to magical realism because of their meaningful way of artisticly
representing all aspects of latin American history. Marcos faught
against the government and the struggle to globalize latin America. He
spoke out against the government with his ideas and point of views to
keep the land distributed between the citizens, including the farmers
of Chiapas. With revolution comes great change and many indigenous
cultures were affected by revolutions. Since the Spanish invasion many
indigenous people lost their lives to disease but also lost their
culture to
the Catholic missionaries.
The Mural The mural is one of the most
important parts of this Latin American
project.Without the mural project our class theme and main focus,
"Faces of the Revolution", could not be well represented. The mural
shows the people who were involved in the Latin American revolutions.
The Video Presentation The Video Group is working to
create a documentary video project consisting of slide images
accompanied by music to set the tone and mood of the movie. The movie
is theme oriented to the "Faces of Revolution" topic. The aspects of
the movie that relate the project to our classes theme are Zapata, and
artists such as Frida Fahlo, and Diego Rivera and there life struggles
and the contributions they brought to the Latin American Revolution.
Various Performances Each performance group has their
own idea and task to best show "Faces of the Revolution". One group
will be reading magical realism poems written by Latin American authors
while two other groups will be performing short skits."The true meaning
of a Revolution" lead by Mijail Benitez relates to the beginning of the
revolutions and the other group "Faces of the Revolution" lead by
Claire O'Connell is focusing on the people involved in the
revolutions. Our forth performance group lead by Cory Teshera-Sterne
will be presenting a musical piece called "Ya Basta!",a song with Latin
American flavor but mixed in with a deeper meaning of
revolutions.
