Our
class is addressing the Latin America Project in three different ways:
the mural, the video and various performances. Below is an overview of
the three topics as well as links to pages containing more detailed
descriptions.
The Project Director, who oversees the coordination of the entire
project, is Christina Balarezo.
Our
Theme is the comparison between Utopian Communism vs. Dystopian
Communism in Latin America.
Our
mural is a painting of the theme "Ideal Communism vs. Today's
Communism."
In this painting the group made a half and half mural where they are
making the viewer compare the two worlds of communism.
On the left there is a world of excellent education, money and
equality,
the utopian communist society. On the right is the world of today's
communism with impoverished people, war and death, and no equality
among the
masses. The sun in the middle represents the two worlds
where it's lively and gives life on one side and creates death on the
other.
The purpose of our Thematic
Video is to compare the reality of communism versus the utopia of
communism. The video will be about three minutes in length. The video
contains an interview with Mr. Edelstein, a clip from one of Castro's
speeches, as well as paintings by Diego Revera.
There are
three
different groups doing performances, each one focusing on a specific
topic. One focusing on the food of Cuba, another focusing on the
music of Latin America, and the last group is focusing on the history
of Cuba.
