"Switchman"

Performance Overview:
The skit is based on the story, Switchman, by: Juan Jose Arrcoia. This play relates to the
theme of struggle for freedom because the switchman would represent the oppressive
leaders in Mexico like Cortez and Diaz. The stranger represents the indigenous people.
The native cultures are trying to get out (become free) and be able to rule themselves.
The oppressive government wants the natural resources that the natives have.

Actors:
Sarah = Group Leader and Switchman
Abu = Director
Amy = Narrator
Emily = Stranger
Mariya = Switchman

Basic Plot:
The story begins with a stranger arrived at the deserted station. The switchman talks with the stranger. The switchman tells stranger that the last train has gone so the stranger should stay overnight at Traveler’s hotel. The stranger doesn’t want to go to a hotel. All the stranger wants is a train ride. The switchman tells that the railroad is strange with some rails that are sketched out with chalk. They talks about why the railroads are so strange until the switchman disappears.
