Performance Overview:
The Zapatella Performance will be a combination of Cinderella and their own story involving Latin American culture. Along with using the plot of Cinderella, they have incorporated cycles of freedom, oppression, rebellion/struggle, revolution, and back to freedom. Like in the story of Cinderella, they will have the same basic theme of the story but put in the Latin American theme of the Zapatistas.

Basic Plot:
- Grandma tells the story of Zapatella
- Zapatella with her papa, the leader of the village, all happy and stuff. Corteza (madrasta), Jose (stepbrother), and Esperanza (stepsister) come in. (Also show the village people like papa as their leader)
- Father dies and Corteza takes over the village. Zapatella gets all the attention. Corteza is jealous so she told the media that Zapatella’s gone.
- Corteza locks Zapatella in the house and made her their servant. Corteza starts to oppress Zapatella. (Also show Corteza oppressing people in the village)
- Corteza, Jose, and Esperanza go to fiesta they didn’t allow Zapatella to come with them. Zapatella cries and prays to God. Mother Mary appears and grants Zapatella her wish of going to the fiesta.
- Zapatella goes to fiesta and meets Marcos, a leader of a revolutionary group. They start to dance and Marcos introduces himself to Zapatella. She didn’t realize that Corteza, Jose, and Esperanza notice her in the fiesta.
- Rumor starts of Zapatella being alive – media comes in.
- Zapatella goes home and Corteza waits in the house. Corteza then starts to talk furiously to Zapatella. She starts to answer back and slaps Corteza (or maybe Corteza slaps her?). Zapatella leaves the house.
- Outside the house Zapatella crying and Marcos and his followers are on their way home but they saw Zapatella and Marcos gives her his hand. Marcos invites Zapatella to stay in his house. She accepts it.
- Zapatella marries Marcos and becomes one of the leaders in Marcos’ group. She also helps the villagers in their chores and everything.
- News of Corteza wiping out village to build a tobacco and coffee land/industry.
- Marcos and Zapatella lead a group of people to rebel against Corteza.
- People attack Corteza’s house.
- Corteza flees out of village and Marcos becomes the leader and Zapatella becomes the person that the villagers look up to.
- Grandma tells people that she is Zapatella.
