Mural

Mural Overview:
The Mural consists of many elements that relate to our theme of struggle for freedom. The Artists incorporated those issues and elements into the 28,920cm² of space on a board. The board on which the mural is painted is a 120cm x 241cm piece of plywood. The mural represents the Latin American citizens who are fighting for their existence. The Mural is rich in metaphorical messages of how Latin America grows and continues to be a huge part of the world. This shows the challenge of thriving in today's money driven world.

Explanation of Main Ideas:
The mural shows our class theme of struggle for freedom in the images incorporated into the mural. The left side shows a tree of money with a corn crop on the bottom. The person in the middle is a symbol of a leader who wants power and money, and who is sucking the money off of the tree. It symbolizes a so-called “leader” that can take advantage of a countries natural resources for his own benefit. The leader figure is also controlling the people on the left like a puppet master. On the right side of the mural, the leader looks peaceful and is giving a peace sign. Right next to the leader shows people dancing and celebrating. The quality of life for everyone is much better.
The mural shows the struggle of normal people, the farmers, the peasants, and other regular citizens of Latin America to live day by day. The citizens show the struggle to live by their own strength, and not be oppressed by the government. In the mural there is also a quote from Mahatma Gandhi “Only the educated are free”. Since the Latin American education is known not to be the best, the quote really expresses that most of the Latin American citizens, can’t thrive on their own because they are not educated to be able to live by their own. The main meaning is that they are not free to live by themselves and they will always be oppressed.
