Project Overview:
Every year 10th grade students at Nathan
Hale do a project that incorporates their learning and understanding
of Latin America. During the Third Quarter, we studied the history
of three countries in Latin America. The countries we studied are:
Nicaragua, Mexico, and Cuba. In addition, we learned about magical
realism in Language Arts, which will also be incorporated into the
project.
Project Components:
The project it self then breaks down
into 4 smaller projects that include: A Mural, Performance, Movie,
and Website. Our class is also split up and we get into groups to
do each of these.
Theme:
Each of these all relate and come together
with a unifying theme that each class develops in the beginning
of the project. Our theme for Ms. Calogero's class is: The Struggle
for Freedom. In our theme we also have many elements that connect
to it and are used in our projects. The elements in our theme are:
Cycles (time: past-present-future), Globalization, The Media, Industrialization,
Commercialization, Poverty, Social Justice, and Revolution. With
our theme we use are current knowledge of history in Latin America
and Magical Realism to create the Mural, Movie, Performances, and
Webpage.
