Video Summary
|
From Nice Vacation to Globalization
Our video’s main theme goes along with the class
theme of “globalization”. The storyline of our movie is of two friends
who are reminiscing about their past trip to Mexico, and how much they
enjoyed the culture and the individuality of the country. It is then
that they decide on going back to Mexico for another visit. Upon
arriving, they are disappointed to find that the Mexico that they once
loved has been dramatically affected by globalization, and much of the
culture and natural environment has been lost. Therefore our video shows
the mostly negative affects of globalization on this Latin American
country.
Our video incorporates environment/ nature, because
we compare and contrast the images of pre-globalized Mexico, which show
animals in their natural habitat and beautiful scenery; to globalized
Mexico, which shows images of the beautiful scenery gone and replaced by
big corporations, and no images of animals. We incorporate
revolution/ oppression by showing pictures of the Zapatistas on our
“second trip to Mexico”, this goes under the revolution/oppression
category because the Zapatistas are fighting against globalization. The
way that we incorporate magical realism/ surrealism is the basic way
that our video is plotted and filmed. A lot of our images of “Mexico”
are actually shot in Seattle, and it is meant to create an exaggerated
take on globalization by having everything be the same as Seattle or the
United States. Finally we have also incorporated the Zapatistas into
the indigenous cultures category, because since the Zapatistas are
indigenous people fighting against globalization, we thought this fit
into our theme really well.
