Dullum’s Class ![]() Projects: The Latin American Project, more commonly known as the mural project, consists of four basic components- the mural, video, website, and the performances (literature, music, and drama). To see how our class executed this project feel free to click on any of the links to get a more in depth look at any of the individual projects. Our Theme: At the very beginning of the project our first task was to decide on a theme as a class. The majority ruled and our class theme became globalization, specifically, in Latin America. Within the theme, there were four subtopics that we had to incorporate: Indigenous culture, magical realism/surrealism, environment/nature, and revolution/oppression. Both the theme and the subtopics can be seen throughout our project. Mural: The mural group, composed by six artistically talented students, had the difficult task of incorporating our class theme of globalization with its four components (magical realism, environment, oppression/revolution, and indigenous cultures) into a single piece of art. They used familiar, big corporation logos as well as symbols to represent Latin American culture that resulted in a powerful image that shows the effects of globalization. ![]() Video The video group had the job of showing the effects of globalization in the short span of a three-minute video. They chose to create a storyline about visits to Mexico before and after globalization began to shape life and culture in Latin America. The group does this using many techniques such as showing still pictures with voice-overs and snippets of acting. Performances: Our performance groups have put together three different performances, one based on music, another on drama, and a third based on literature. Music: The musical performance group, composed of three students, did an amazing job of portraying the theme with a music-based performance. They used drum music, a Power Point, and literary pieces they wrote, to explore the theme of globalization. Bravo. Link to Music Performance Page
Literature:
The literature performance group, comprised of three gifted girls, wrote their own original poetry to represent the class theme of globalization. Each poem represented a different aspect of the theme. The performance consisted of one girl reciting their poem while the other two added a dramatic flare by acting the piece out. Drama: The drama group, which especially dreaded doing the project, managed to create a performance that incorporates all the themes of globalization into a reenactment of a magical realism story of, “The Switchman.” The hard work and the determination of these students can be seen throughout the project. With so many people doing so many things to make such a spectacular project, lots of research was done. As the web site group, we did our best to collect the web page links (URLs) for that research to list on our works cited page. |
