Pachamama
Ms. Dullum's Class
The woman is the centerpiece of the mural. She is Mother Nature,
an important piece of Latin American culture. The man is the power of the
culture. The tall temple shows that the culture can still be seen today.
The river in the background connects all things together. The game represents
a process of determining who will grace the gods with an offering of their
bodies. In the mural the food represents life. Mother earth provides the
nutrients in dirt that enable food to grow in order to nourish her people.
Turquoise is a very rare color that can be associated with vanity. The
necklace she wears in used to ward off illness and insures that she lives
with prosperity.
The theme of our mural is "Indigenous Cultures". In this mural we incorporated
different aspects of Indigenous cultures. For example, the farming was
and is a big part of Latin American cultures, which is represented in the
background. Also, the Aztecs played games one of which is displayed on
the bottom. The temple was a place for the people to make sacrifices to
please their gods. Lastly, the woman coming out of the earth represents
mother earth making sure that her land will not be ruined.
This mural shows Mother Nature watching over her land and her people
protecting them from pollution and overpopulation. The social justice
connected to this mural is about self sufficiency of the cultures of Latin
America. The corn is also a key point, representing that produce is a main
source of income for the people in Latin America. If the land is polluted
and over population occurs, the economy will fall apart.
In case you did not know, there are more important things in this mural
than just a pretty face and bright colors. The most important thing you
should see is that Latin America does not need the United States, big companies,
or N.A.F.T.A. to depend upon. Additionally, everyone must realize that we
are talking about a very strong culture.
