2009-2010 ASB APPROVED CLUBS EARTH CORPS – Matt Hinkley To promote environmental awareness and respect through composting, tree planting and education. FCCLA – Cindy Kegley The only national career and technical student-led organization (CTS)) with the family as its central focus. It’s the “Ultimate Leadership Experience” focusing on character development, creative and critical thinking, interpersonal communications, practical knowledge and career preparation. FCCLA functions as an integral part of the Family & Consumer Sciences Education curriculum and operates within the school system. GAY/STRAIGHT ALLIANCE (GSA) – Nickie McDonald GSA is a student run club. The goal is to provide a safe, supportive environment for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, questioning (LGBTQ) and straight ally youth to meet and discuss sexual orientation and gender identity issues, and to work to create a school environment free of discrimination, harassment, and intolerance. HACKY SACK CLUB – Rob Feigal-Stickles This club is to involve students in a fun loving athletic sport. HALE MUSIC INDUSTRY CLUB – David Nolet A club for kids that are interested in any part of the music biz and want to learn more about it. JAPANESE CLUB – Atsuko Yamaguchi Bringing together a group, united by a common interest, and to promote activities which will expand awareness and knowledge of the Japanese culture. KEY CLUB – Will Anderson This is a leadership and community service based club. MAHJONG EAST MEETS WEST – Atsuko Yamaguchi Bringing culture from the other side of the work to Nathan Hale. Students will learn the games Mahjong and Third-teen. MARINE SCIENCE CLUB – Karl Englert To expand students interest in marine science, to explore student’s knowledge, field trip, share educational videos and boldly encourage creative, marine science thinking. MOCK TRIAL COMPETITION TEAM – Doug Edelstein & Michael Guadagno We train for
participation in District, state and/or national high school mock trial
competitions RAIDERS AGAINST DESTRUCTIVE DECISIONS (RADD) – Cindy Kegley Nationally known as SADD, RADD is the Nathan Hale Chapter. “To provide students with the best prevention and intervention tools possible to deal with the issues of underage drinking, other drug use, impaired driving, and other destructive decisions.” RELAY FOR LIFE – Mike Linett We bring the Hale community together to support the fight against cancer. We have a final celebration at the Relay for Life walkathon at Shoreline in the Spring. RETRO NINTENDO CLUB – Andre Chaisson To reunite teenagers with their childhood games. The TEA CLUB – Shannon ConnerSpending time together to share and enjoy tea, tea cakes, tea sandwiches and each other. WOMEN IN TANDEM CHALLENGING HATRED – Bill Kuhns To promote and raise awareness of women’s rights.
